Year 2

Miss Gibson

Our class text this term is The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton.

Our reading area has an enchanted tree in the corner, toadstools for the children to get comfy with their favourite book

and a magical tent covered in fairy lights. Don’t you wish you could join us in this magical world?

In year 2 we have been looking at the importance of Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.

We learnt that we wear poppies in November as a symbol of hope and to remember the soldiers who sadly died in the war.

We have worked hard to write poems that describe the poppies and the fields they are found in.

We have also worked hard to make our own poppies in class by transforming boring paper plates into beautiful, scarlet poppies.

In history we have been learning about the Great Fire of London.

We started by looking at how London looked in the past compared to the present.

We noticed that the buildings were made from wood and built very closely together so thought this could have caused the fire to spread so quickly.

We also notice that the River Thames runs through London, a lot of children suggested that people could get water from there to put the fire out.

After making some predictions on how the fire started we watched a video to find out if we were right. Then we made a timeline and put the events in order of time they happened and retold it as a class.
