Brook Hampton said "Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, puddles, trees, sticks and tadpoles, even more so in this digital age"
Wyevr 2019 "Repetitive exposure to high quality outdoor play opportunities has a positive impact on social and cognitive development"
The Aughton woods offer a child-centred inspirational learning process that creates opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It offers the opportunity for children to experience success in areas not available to them in a classroom setting. Outdoor learning in our woodland and pond area provides children with rich, hands-on, play experiences that bring the curriculum to life. Exploring nature helps pupils develop curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills while supporting their physical and emotional wellbeing. From pond dipping and wildlife observation to building dens and exploring seasonal changes, children learn to work collaboratively, take safe risks, and build resilience. Our outdoor environment also nurtures a sense of responsibility and respect for the natural world, giving pupils valuable skills and experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. As part of the curriculum offer, our Aughton children are allocated a half a day session in our extensive outdoors and woodland area.
