The KS1 Curriculum

The KS1 pupils follow the National Curriculum Programme of Study. We have designed the structure of our KS1 curriculum to develop the children's skills and knowledge from Foundation Stage through a range of subjects. This will be done through whole class sessions, small group learning, independent tasks and continuous provision. In KS1, our children will take part in the subjects below;

Year 1

Year 1 builds on the strong foundations established in FS2, supporting children as they transition into more structured learning while maintaining an active, engaging approach. Through our values of kindness, resilience and ambition, pupils develop confidence in reading, writing and mathematics, particularly phonics and early number skills. Active learning is central, helping children to explore concepts, ask questions and take pride in their achievements.

Year 2

In Year 2, pupils continue to strengthen key skills while growing in independence and confidence. Guided by our values of respect, ambition and self-belief, children deepen their understanding of reading, writing and mathematics through active, purposeful learning experiences. Pupils are encouraged to persevere, reflect on their learning and work collaboratively as they prepare for the transition into Key Stage 2.

Teaching Structure

At Aughton we use a range of teaching styles to support the needs of all the children in setting. We take the time to get to know the children and understand how they learn best.
