Meet the Governors at Aughton

Chair of Governors: James Beighton

Vice Chair: James Graham

I am Principal of Aston Academy 11-18 secondary school in Rotherham.  I began my teaching career as a PE specialist at Aston Academy (then Comprehensive school) in 2003. Throughout this period I was able drive curriculum changes including introducing vocational pathways, increasing Post 16 course options and securing level 2 PE qualifications for all KS4 students. I went on to be the Principal at Swinton Academy from 2021 and am extremely proud of the progress the academy made.

In September 2024 I was delighted to accept the role of Principal of Aston Academy and return to the school I started my teaching career at.  I am proud to represent ACET, I have always demonstrated ACET values while at all times modelling high standards of ethics and behaviour.   Ensuring that our students are valued respected and constantly encouraged to strive to reach their full potential.  Delivering an education that is rooted in mutual respect, tolerance, valuing cultural diversity and building upon fundamental British values.  I have consistently promoted the ACET vision; striving for excellence and empowering achievement.  I believe in the core value that ‘every pupil deserves the same opportunities to succeed’.

Lauren Moore

Lauren works in one of the ACET Junior Academies leading on safeguarding alongside supporting families and pupils with SEND.

I thoroughly enjoy this role and feel that I can help make a positive difference to the lives of children and families.

Previously, I worked at Aughton Early Years Centre as an Outreach worker. It is a privilege to be supporting AJA as a Governor as I feel I can bring my knowledge of the local area and my professional knowledge of safeguarding and SEND to support and guide the academy.

I believe that school must see each child as an individual and the qualities that they hold. We must look beyond the child, their home life and their experiences, to allow us to meet the needs of each child.

Janet Dean

I have 21 years experience working at a local Primary School as HLTA. I also ran the wrap around care provision for the school. I worked with every year group within my role but my expertise was working with Y6 children. I retired from my role in education in January of this year and I'm now employed as Children & Families Worker for Swallownest Baptist Church.

I know how important it is for both staff and children to feel valued and safe within the school environment, and I have a particular interest in a positive attitude towards wellbeing for all.

I'm looking forward to being involved in the life of Aughton Junior Academy and the Trust.

Louise Smith

I am proud to say I have two children at Aughton Junior academy. I work in an infant school as a Learning Mentor. I am passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and being proactive so that they feel ready to learn.

I also feel very strongly that reading and phonics are a key to a child’s education and love the phonics and reading scheme at Aughton.

Sara Jinks

I am incredibly proud to be a staff governor at Aughton Junior Academy, a place where I have had the privilege of working for many years. Throughout my time here, I have developed strong, meaningful relationships with not only my colleagues but also with many families in the community. These connections have allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the values and needs of the children we serve, and I am committed to supporting their growth and success. Being part of the governing body gives me an opportunity to contribute to the future of the school, ensuring it continues to thrive and positively impact the lives of the families and children I care so much about.

Minutes of meetings are available on request. Please email contactus@astoncetrust.org and the ACET Governance Professional shall respond accordingly.
