Year 4

Mrs Sear and Miss Barr

The reading area in our classroom this year is based around our second Reading into Writing text ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’, the classic novel where we will immerse ourselves in the land of Narnia.  We will also be reading ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon’.

Within the classroom there are working walls to assist children during independent tasks.  All children are able to use these and they are updated regularly to reflect the work we are doing and assist pupils to succeed.

In Year 4, we understand that learning and progression is paramount, throughout the course of the year we learn and over learn many concepts within a broad and balanced curriculum; please see the overview for a full range of learning opportunities over this term.

On Monday 20th May, Year 4 had a live lesson with the Royal Opera House as the first part of our Create and Dance unit of work.  Following the lesson, the children went outside and tried to copy the heart performed by some of the amazing dancers they saw during the lesson.

In our Geography during the Spring term, the children explored biomes and worked together to create their own.

On 24th November, Year 4 had a trip to The Museum of the Moon at the Rotherham Minster.  First, the children designed their own moon underneath the incredible art work by Luke Jerram.  Then, the children designed, named and made their own rockets before blasting them to the moon together.  Finally, the children investigated how craters appear and measured the craters made from their rocks at different heights.
